Green Dot 208 is a community-wide strategy, aimed at involving everyone to prevent and stop bullying, partner violence, sexual assault, and harassment in our community. We know that during these instances of violence, there are often bystanders who could have done something to prevent — or help stop — the act of violence. Locally, we’re using the internationally researched and evaluated program from Alteristic Inc.
Green Dot targets all community members as potential bystanders, seeking to engage them through awareness, education, and skill work. By establishing the intolerance of violence as the norm, bystanders use their proactive behaviors to intervene during high-risk situations. In turn, violence — community wide — is reduced. The goal is for all community members to engage in a basic education program that will equip them with the tools to prevent violence before it starts. By doing so, new norms will be introduced, and those who have yet to be influenced by the Green Dot program will adopt their newly exhibited behaviors. Over time, this will have a ripple effect in the greater community.
